Text string used to place label in map display.
U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, 2020, GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)
Boldface name in traditional DMU, identifies the unit within its hierarchical context.
U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, 2020, GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)
Full name of unit, including identification of containing higher rank units.
U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, 2020, GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)
Stratigraphic range (or, for intrusive and extrusive rocks, age), listed highest (youngest) first.
U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, 2020, GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)
Free-format text description of map unit.

{Red, Green, Blue} tuples that specify the suggested color.
U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, 2020, GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)
Text description (for example, ‘random small red dashes’) provided as a convenience for users who must recreate symbolization.
U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, 2020, GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)
Foreign key to DataSources; to track provenance of each data element. Values = DAS1, DAS2, DAS3, etc... Null values not permitted.

The following attributes are possible for records in the description of map units data: DescriptionOfMapUnits_ID, MapUnit, Label, Name, Full Name, Age, Description, GeoMaterial, GeoMaterialConfidence, HierarchyKey, ParagraphStyle, Symbol, AreaFillRGB, AreaFillPatterDescription, DataSourceID. Not all description of map units have applicable attributes. Appropriate attributes are filled in for each entry.

This table in the GeMS file geodatabase captures the content of the Description of Map Units (DMU), or equivalent to the List of Map Units and associated pamphlet text, included in the Geologic Map of the Dufur Area, Wasco County, Oregon.
In the GeMS file geodatabase, the map (geologic) unit attritubes for the geologic map of the Wolf Run and Northern Part of the Friend 7.5 Quadrangles, Wasco County, Oregon, are managed in a table called DescriptionOfMapUnits.

Supported in part between 2014 and 2020 by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) STATEMAP [http://ncgmp.usgs.gov/about/statemap.html] component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program under assistance awards G15AC00180 and G20AC00202, and by the Oregon Water Resources Department through Interagency Agreements DOGAMI IAA# 12102013/OWRD 13 057 and DOGAMI IAA# DASPS-2542-16/OWRD IAA 16 047. Additional funds were provided by the State of Oregon through the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI).
Care was taken to limit categorical attribute errors. Attribute accuracy of the database was visually inspected but dispite the checks there may be some attributes that are still mislabeled.
Attribute fidelity is tested by visual comparison of the pamphlet description with the records in the table. Characterization of general lithology of units were assessed based on the general lithology confidence. See U.S. Geological Survey, Geologic Map Schema, 2020 for more information.
The table only includes information collected in the study area. Data collection does not include all possible traverses, measured sections, etc., and thereby is not complete. Not all field data were collected nor were all of the data compiled from lineage maps. Geologic concepts and definitions of map units are current. Density of observations is sufficient to support the map(s).
Lineage maps were used as base maps in the following manner: 1) to compare the mapping against previous work; 2) scribing geologic features, e.g., bedding, faults, and folds; and 3) reference materials.
The geodatabase was validated by, employing the Validate script provided in the GeMS Tools for Arc10.5 2018-03-04. This checks that units are unique in the DescriptionOfMapUnits table, they cross reference between datasets in the geodatabase, and have at least one match.
